My dorm is a WiFi deadzone. HELP!?!?!?

So I’m moving into my dorm at college next month and I have a big problem. All of the dorms on campus have WiFi, however, the one in particular that I am in is built like Fort Know with lead plated walls and the wireless doesn’t actually make it into the rooms. To fix this they give each student a handy ethernet cable. Not such an issue so far. I can hook my laptop up via the ethernet cable, but EVERYTHING else I have works on wifi. My printer, my Xbox, my iPod, my Kindle, a whole slew of the apps on my phone, most of my media utilities, my DS, and it would be nice to not have to sit in the corner with my laptop tied to the wall with 3ft. of ethernet cable. Does anyone have any ideas how I can turn 1 measely ethernet cable into wireless? Can I do it if I just get a wireless router? Any help is greatle appreciated.

How to create new connections on newly reformatted Dell Computer?

I reformatted my Dell Dimension 2350 (old) and it doesn’t let me set up any new internet connections and I need the internet in order to update XP service pack. I have the ethernet cable plugged into my router for FIOS but have no idea where to go from there.

Creating a wireless network and accessing Network resources?

Hi all, I wonder if I could get some help with a networking problem I have. I really hate networking – I always struggle with it. Here’s my setup:

MainPC – this connects the Internet via Virgin Media modem which is attached to the wireless Router via an Ethernet cable (I have Virgin Media cable broadband fwiw, and yes I have read the similar topic). The OS is Windows XP. I’ve set up a network called gillsman.local and a workgroup also called gillsman.local.

Laptop – I have a wireless card in the laptop and I’ve connected to the gillsman.local network, and I think I’ve successfully managed to join the gillsman.local workgroup, but I don’t know. I do know, however, that I have access to the Internet, so that’s all good. The OS is Windows Vista.

Printer – I have a printer that connects to MainPC via USB. In the Printers & Faxes option in Control Panel on my MainPC I’ve shared it and I now have the little hand icon on it.

Shared Folder – I have on my MainPC that I want to share on the network, and again, I’ve shared it.

Problem: Whilst my laptop can access the Internet, I can’t access any network resources such as the printer or the shared folder. Why is this? When I go into the Network options in Vista I can see only the Laptop and the router, but not the MainPC. I tried to Add A Printer over the network, but again, this didn’t work. Can anyone help me out with this please? I’m not a Vista expert at all, so I might need basic instructions as well. Thanks!

why can't i connect my linksys router to my comcast modem and gateway computer?

my cable connections are not ethernet, they r usb. the steps in the Linksys cd setup do not apply to my connections. the second step is to disconnect my ethernet from my gateway comp. and put into the internet whole on the router. there is no ethernet cable connection to my gateway. there is only a usb plugged into my modem and it connects to by gateway via a usb plug.

Why does my laptop refuse to connect to my router after I set up a WAP password?

Whenever I try to connect, it says "The settings saved on this computer do not match the requirements needed to connect" or something similar to that.
Also, whenever I take the password off and leave it insecure, it connects just fine.
The only way I can connect is by using an Ethernet Cable from the router and my laptop.
