I have an older version of Microsoft word and I need to add my last name and page number in the top right hand corner of my paper. I found the part where you click Insert and page numbers so I have the page numbers but how can i get my name in front of it? It won’t let me click on the numbers to add to it…

You know how for MLA format, you have to have your last name at the top left corner followed by page number for header? (ie, Smith 14) How do you do this on Microsoft Word 2008 for Mac? I seem to only be able to put my last name and the SAME number on each page, not numerical page numbers. Help!

I’m writing a paper in MLA format.
I have to number all the pages except for the first one, the title page.

The problem is, I can’t insert page numbers in the headings without it numbering the title page as well. When I try to type the numbers out individually, the headers to every page change to be the same (so that I have five page ones)

can anyone help?

I have written a screenplay, however it requires page numbers. I have found out how to number the pages, but it numbers it from the very first page, and does not allow me to change it. I do not want the first nor second page to be numbered, I want the third page to be the first. So how do i go about that?
Ps. It won’t even let me tediously type each page number individually, as it numbers them all the same if i try.

What I am wanting to do is add page numbers to my word document. But I don’t want them all on the same side. I have tried every way I can think of. I have used the header and footer, also I have tried using the add page numbers button; but it doesn’t work. Example: I want the first page blank without any page numbers but on the second page I want it to say 2 on the left hand side of the paper, and the I want it to alternate on the next page. I want it to have 3 on the right-hand side of the page. Can you please help me; any suggestions are much appreciated.

I am doing a disseration and I am wondering how to use arabic page numbers in a Word document for the preface, table of contents etc., and how to then carry on to the body of text using arabic page numbers, help please! I’ve tried many ways still can’t seem to do it! Very frustating!

1. Do I place the page numbers on the right margin or left margin?

2. Do I place them in the header or footer?

3. Lastly, do I put the page number on my title page or do i start numbering the pages after the title page?
