Nintendo Wii’s Most Popular Games

Nintendo made some of the best classic games, but give these a try and see why they can still work:

Gunstar Heroes
First released in 1993, this quirky game is well-loved for its exciting running and shooting action and its non-stop intense gameplay. You’ll also like the game’s manga-style look and the guns that could be mixed and matched to create your very own custom-designed shooter. Choose from a flamethrower, a homing shot, a machine gun and a laser. But no matter how big your gun gets, your enemies either multiply or get bigger themselves, so you never run out of challenges.

If you enjoyed the arcade games of the past like Street Fighter II and Contra, you’ll like this game even better. The levels, thankfully enough, are brief so you’re not stuck with long-winding stages of mindless gunplay. Two players can also play simultaneously.

Trauma Center: Second Opinion
If you’ve played the Trauma Center before, you’ve probably met Dr. Derek Stiles, who just completed his residency. The story progresses through text dialogue and still images, but it’s interesting enough with the incorporation of some serious material, like euthanasia to suicidal patients. As Dr. Derek Stiles, you are gifted with the Healing Touch.

In the world you will inhabit, forces that point to bioterrorism are threatening the world with an epidemic. You will be performing surgery on patients, although it’s not as gory as you might think. You get to use a multiple array of surgical tools through the analog stick of the Wii’s nunchuk attachment. And it’s not just about surgery. You do have to mind your patient’s health – if his heart stops, you have to do something. This game isn’t easy so you’ll be challenged throughout.

Rayman Raving Rabbids
This is one of those rare games where the villains are cuter than the hero, Rayman. The games are silly but entertaining – they’ll even let you play whack-the-rabbid inside the bathroom stalls or use the nunchuk and the remote like drum sticks as the bunnies dance on a stage. With about 70 minigames, you can chase away boredom easily, although for some jaded players, this tends to use the same formula in some levels.

The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess
This is Zelda’s first complete outing since The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker won the 2003 Gamespot Game of the Year. Play the game as Link, defend Hyrule and save Princess, Zelda. In this version, you will be fighting the shadow as it slowly corrupts the land of Hyrule. By fighting the bad guys, finding dungeons, acquiring heart containers and getting weapons, you help revive the land.

Now, Are You Ready to Rule Hyrule?

The much-awaited release of Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess has finally arrived and with a new version specially designed for expectant users of Wii, the newest innovation from Nintendo.

The Storyline of Zelda
A young wrangler named Link, who grew up in a small rural village, received orders from the mayor requiring his attendance at the Hyrule Summit. This esteemed honor however concealed an ominous destiny for Link: darkness has blanketed the whole kingdom of Hyrule, and his entry to the Twilight Realm instantly turned Link into a wolf.

Link’s sudden transformation made it easy for his opponents to capture him, but thanks to the opportune intervention of a mysterious woman called Midna, Link was saved and together, they formed a quest to rescue Hyrule from evil, before it was too late.

What to Expect from Zelda
Master Sword Slashing? In Zelda, you’ll still be able to slash your sword to fight and chop the appropriate things or creatures in sight just like how you did in previous Zelda games. The difference, however, is that this time the sword that your character holds mirror the movements that your hand makes via the motion-sensitive Wii remote control unit.

The Wii Remote, thankfully, is easy to use as a sword. All you’ll need is a slight flick of your wrist for the short jabs of your sword and a bit more force for the more powerful sword moves.

Master Fishing – This aspect of this game was one of the several features that were obviously built to take Great advantage of the gaming unit’s motion sensitivity. Thankfully, once more, using the Wii Remote as a fishing rod isn’t difficult at all. Before you know it, you’ll be rearing back and hooking your rod up and down to catch the biggest fish in the history of Hyrule!

The Present is a Blend of Old and New Flavors. As you explore the vast territory of Hyrule, there will be moments that playing the game will feel like a nostalgic walk down memory lane while there are other moments where you’ll feel absolutely challenged to navigate through unchartered territory. Whether this is good or not, however, depends on you alone.

It’s a Big Big World – Hyrule is quite enormous and accompanied with dungeons that are even bigger than usual. Exploring the kingdom however is an interesting and yes, fun experience and which you can make even more interesting if you view it through a wolf’s eyes.

The Verdict: Although it doesn’t achieve an overall perfect score, Zelda is still a beautiful game made more beautiful because of Wii.

What Can You Get Out Of The Latest Version Of Nintendo Wii

With a price tag of $250 or less, Nintendo’s Wii is reputed to be cheaper than most seventh generation game consoles. It also aims for a wider market demographic than its competitors. Hence, it is equipped with the capacity to be compatible with other platforms including the Internet.

Coming at only a few millimeters in height and width, the Wii is the smallest game console to ever rollout from Nintendo. And at only 2.7 pounds, it is the lightest among the present game consoles on the market. What’s more, the Wii can be placed in a horizontal or a vertical orientation; so there is no reason for you not to find a perfect space and position to keep it.

While the best features it may have to offer are its ability to receive messages and updates online via WiiConnect24 and its low electrical consumption, the following are some more of the unique features that Wii has to offer.

One-Handed Controller

A striking feature about Nintendo’s Wii is the remote controller that can be used with only one hand. The controller makes use of infrared sensors and accelerometers that are super sensitive to the user’s movements and can detect the way it is positioned in a three dimensional platform. With this controller, a gamer can play using his or her movements rather than mere button-pressing.

The controller also features force feedback technology wherein players can feel vibrations to better simulate the game being played in a real world scenario. Best of all, Wii controller has an internal speaker that enhances the feel of the game being played. Wii also comes with a nunchuk unit for that more traditional touch of an analog stick and trigger buttons.

Equipped with Bluetooth, the Wii controller is connected to the console without the limitations posed by cords. And it can also be connected to other devices thru a port located under the controller.

Retro-Compatibility

Wii offers retro or backward compatibility with Nintendo GameCube software and some hardware. This means you can enjoy GameCube games on your Wii. The console comes with four GameCube controller panels as the Wii remote controller can’t be used for GameCube games. It also has a slot for GameCube memory cards if you want to save games.

Parental Restrictions

The Wii console comes equipped with parental control capability. Parents can prohibit very young kids from playing games with unsuitable contents. Wii automatically checks the content rating of games being played. If a game doesn’t meet the restrictions set, Wii won’t load the game unless an override password is keyed in.

Buy a Nintendo Wii

It was called “Nintendo Revolution”. Nintendo Wii is the Nintendo Version that plays NTSC and encodes any disc format. With its cool look, the latest Japanese console is made of top-notch materials and comes with a compact, witty design.

Nintendo has taken on the approach of improving its entire system and not just taking from what their competition released. The Nintendo Wii controller that is special-motion sensitive.

The difference is that you can punch, drive or strike a sword by turning your wrist instead of pushing the button.

Its size is three DVD cases piled atop another. It is available in a silver stand, enabling the system to be displayed horizontally or vertically.

If you have been a Nintendo fan over the years, this console can play games compatible with the Nintendo GameCube. It can also download fan-favorite titles from the past 20 years for Nintendo 64 and Super Nintendo Entertainment System (SNES).

The Wii costs at around $250. This rate is cheaper than the Microsoft Xbox 360 and way cheaper than Sony PlayStation 3. The packaging of the Nintendo Wii includes a sports game that is quite addictive. That alone will let you feel first-hand what the system’s controller is all about.

In recent news, Nintendo Wii has outsold Sony’s PlayStation 3. Both components were released toward the end of the year (the former was available mid-November while the latter in mid-December).

There was a speculation that PlayStation 3 will be the best-selling game console all over the world. Unfortunately, that didn’t happen.

Nintendo has managed to ship 4 million Wii’s worldwide on December 31. That is twice the number of PlayStation 3′s promised to deliver. As 2006 closed down, Nintendo had already sold 600,000 Wii eight days after it debuted on November 19.

It could be the price. Nintendo Wii can be purchased at $250 whereas a Sony PlayStation 3 costs $600.

If all these have sparked your interest, you can buy Nintendo Wii in your local stores. You can also buy them online :www.amazon.com and www.bestbuy.com. You can compare prices from one store to another. Some sell them cheaper than the standard price.

By buying it on eBay, you also get a discount. That depends though whether you’re willing to go for a second-hand console.

However anyway you decide to get it, seems like Nintendo has managed to do well with this system.

Tips For Installing Your Nintendo Wii

Before connecting your Nintendo Wii anywhere, decide first how you would like to position it. You can choose whether you want to lay it flat or let it stand vertically using the Wii console stand and plate that comes with the package. This allows you a little flexibility in terms of storage options so you won’t have a lot of concerns when it comes to space. An important thing to note though: position your it to allow enough space for the internal fan to work.

Plugging the console
Next, plug the AC cord into the input connector that is located at the back of the console. The console has an AV (Audio/Video) Multi-Out plug that lets you connect to most TV and VCR units. Connect the AV Cable plugs into the connectors on your TV. Take care to note the color code of the connectors: red for right audio input, white for left audio input and yellow for video input.

After the connectors are in place, turn on the TV and the Wii console. On the TV, look for Input Select, AUX for auxiliary or Source or EXT for external. Use the channel where you’re usually tuned in to view videos. Choose the Nintendo game.

Connecting to the VCR
If you want to use the VCR, set the unit to VCR and then put in a tape, press play and then press stop. The game image should show up on the screen. If your speakers are plugged in, the sound should come out from there.

Locating the sensor bar
The Sensor Bar may be placed near the TV, ideally above or below the screen. Insert the Sensor plug into the Sensor connector found on the back of the console. However else you may wish to mount it, make sure the Sensor Bar is aligned close to the TV, preferably in front.

Check the System Setting of the console to ensure that the location option for the Sensor Bar is set accordingly. To check if the location is ideal, take note of the reception and make necessary adjustments.

Using the Wiimote
Two AA batteries are used with the Wiimote. Use the wrist strap to keep the remote snug and fit in your hand. There is no problem about synchronizing the Wiimote that already comes included in your package, but if you are using additional units, you might need to synch them to use them properly.

To synch, you can use the standard mode or the one-time mode. The one-time mode is reserved for Wiimotes you don’t usually use with your console and the standard mode is used for additional units.

Nintendo Wii Accessories You Ought to Have
Nintendo is one of the top innovators when it comes to accessories such as controllers and its designs have become a much sought-after industry standard. The Nintendo Wii by itself comes with some simple fun via is Wii Sports game, but if you want to enjoy the experience to the fullest, here are a few accessories you might want to pick up for yourself:

More controllers
Nintendo Wii comes complete with a two-in-one controller : that is, a nunchuk and a Wiimote, but you might want more for two-player games like boxing or tennis. The Wii can accommodate four controllers, but get an extra nunchuk for $20 and another Wiimote for $40 to maximize your game.

GameCube memory cards
Why? If you’re playing GameCube games on the Wii, you’ll want to save your efforts in case you need to take a break and you can’t do that to the Wii’s built-in memory. You can only save to a GameCube memory card. Older GameCube cards will do, but if you don’t have one, be prepared to shell out about $25.

GameCube controllers
Nintendo Wii has backward adaptability in that it can still accommodate GameCube, although you’ll need a GameCube controller to play the game to satisfy your nostalgia. GC controller will cost about $25 or get a wireless Nintendo WaveBird for a few dollars more, although your older GC controllers will suffice.

SD Card
Time will come when you’ll use up the Wii’s 512MB, so give yourself more space with a new SD card. Although you can buy one from Nintendo, any SD card will do. A good one to get is a 1GB card for all the space you need and that will set you back by about $25 to $30.

Batteries
Get the rechargeable ones because the Wiimote is a regular power gobbler. It uses two standard AAs which are included in the Wii package and with the controller unit in case you’re buying a separate one. You’ll need extra battery power for the nunchuk. You can save more if you buy rechargeable NiMH ones and a charger.

Wii Points
Not exactly your hard accessory per se, but this is one of the draws of the Wii’s Virtual Console. The Wii Points are good to have if you plan to buy Nintendo’s classic games such as Sonic the Hedgehog, Donkey Kong and Super Mario 64. The Wii Points function like real currency and has a dollar exchange rate of 100 points to 1 US dollar. Buy the points via Nintendo’s prepaid cards or from its online store.

Everything Starts and Ends at the Xbox Dashboard

If you’ve just purchased an Xbox 360 and find it hard to navigate yourself to and fro and perform a particular function, the first thing you should understand about your new gaming unit is the Xbox Dashboard. The Xbox Dashboard is what a nucleus is to an atom: it’s the brain or control center of the whole unit.

The Xbox Dashboard has four integral parts, all of which will be explained to you one by one.

Part One: Xbox 360 Live
At this section of the Xbox Dashboard, you can view and modify your gamer profile to ensure that the performance and features of the Xbox 360 will be to your own specifications. This feature is nonetheless also accessible in the other parts of the Xbox Dashboard.

The Xbox Live is the point of interaction of your Xbox 360 as this is where you can send and receive messages from friends who have a Xbox 360 as well. Similar to the messenger list of Yahoo and other online networks, you can check, add, and delete people to your friends list. If you are playing a multiplayer game, use Xbox Live to invite other players to play with you.

Lastly, this segment is also where you can gain access to the Xbox Live Marketplace and purchase add-ons to increase the entertainment value of your Xbox 360.

Part Two: Xbox 360 Games
The Xbox Live Marketplace can also be accessed through this section of the Xbox Dashboard but only so you can try the demos provided for the various games and add-ons being sold. You can also watch game videos from the Marketplace and through this section as well.

The Xbox Games section also allows you to check out the various games available for downloading from the Xbox Live Arcade. Lastly, the Xbox Games section will provide you with the list of games that you have already played :a great feature if you’re fond of comparing notes with other players.

Part Three: Xbox 360 Media
The media section of your Xbox Dashboard is, as its name already suggests, the media control unit of your gaming unit. This is where you should go in order to listen to your favorite music and view photos or videos in various formats. This can be connected to a desktop’s Window Media to obtain access to other online services.

Part Four: Xbox 360 System
Lastly, the system section of your Xbox dashboard will allow you to change, add, remove, and modify settings and controls that affect your gaming experience.

Part Four(A): Xbox 360 System Customization
The new Xbox 360 is finally out on the market, with double the graphics quality, power, and speed of its predecessor, the original Xbox. This console from Microsoft (makers of Windows) offers a lot of new games for old gamers and new gamers alike to enjoy. Titles such as Halo 3, Call of Duty, Final Fantasy XI, and many more are what the gamers have been waiting for.

The Xbox 360 offers things that its predecessor, as well as its current competitors such as the Sony PlayStation 3 and Nintendo Wii, do not. For one, previous titles from the previous Xbox version are playable on the Xbox 360, and in most cases, the graphics are enhanced. Other consoles can play games from their previous version but don’t enhance them.

One thing that makes the Xbox 360 more appealing is that you can personalize it by placing skins. This would show how creative you are and would allow you to replace the monotonous look with your own personal flavor. Since you’ll probably be playing the Xbox 360 for quite a time, you would want to personalize it.

You have a variety of options available to you should you decide to get a skin for your Xbox 360. You can choose to place skins on the console unit itself, to give it a different look. Another option would to add skins to the controllers, matching the unit itself, which would give it a more unique look.

There are numerous designs available, in many different colors. You may contact or go to your local Xbox dealer and ask if they have skins, or you can simply search for them on the Internet. There are manufacturers of skins in decal form, which are easy to stick to the outer portion of the console.

You can even have custom made skins if you want. Although this may cost more money, perhaps you would like your own design and creativity to come out, so this can be a viable option too. An investment here is worth it, particularly if you decide to use your Xbox 360 for a number of years.

The Xbox 360 isn’t simply a game console for you to enjoy. It can also be an artwork for you to appreciate. In placing the Xbox 360 skins, you can both enjoy the games and the sight of your personalized Xbox 360 unit.

Downloading and Installing Programs With Care

Imagine your PC or MAC crash just because you were careless enough to let one small virus eat up its way around your files, how would you feel?

Most computer viruses come from the countless programs the World Wide Web offers. Each one of them is appealing and tempting for the modern-day consumer. However, a smart consumer knows that before buying (some require credit card payments) or downloading a program, a thorough research must have been conducted beforehand.

Some say that searching for the appropriate programs for your system is very much like searching for the right appliances for your home. That is not exactly the case. The former is more complicated than the latter.

With appliances, there is an assurance of what the product does. Also, there is a warranty. Once, the appliance you bought is not functioning as much as you would want it to, you can always have it replaced or get your money back.

Whereas with programs, you have no idea what the CD can do to your system the minute you put it in. There will always be side effects so how do you gauge the possible risks involved?

The reason why you are resorting to a program is because your computer has needs which you want to satisfy. Nonetheless, some programs cause changes into your system the minute they are installed. You have to figure these out all on your own.

Here are some tips you can apply when buying programs:

1. You must know as much as you can about the program before you download or install this into your computer. The free program offers may be quite inviting but you must be updated on the possible changes it can contribute into your system once you have installed it.

2. There must be a refund/return policy. Do understand these important terms just in case the program you bought does not meet your expectations and standards.

3. Buy from a local store with a credible reputation. Read up on the best place where you could get the program that you need.

Moving on to another situation, what about those programs that can easily be downloaded from the web? How would you know whether these are worth installing into your system? Sometimes, these programs are virus-carriers because of their easy access.

That being the case, these steps can help you determine whether it is worth downloading and installing or not:

1. Ask yourself this: what does the program do? The webpage (when you’re downloading it online) or the CD-Rom (when you’re installing it on your computer) must clearly state the exact description of the program for the customer’s benefit. Learn as much as you can but you must also take into consideration the credibility of the author.

2. Ask yourself whether you are okay with the changes that will occur in your system upon installation of the program.

3. If the author is stated on the webpage or on the CD Rom, the better. In that case, you can contact him via email or telephone and ask about the program first-hand.

4. Testimonials from previous customers are also good information you can rely on when researching on the program. Naturally, they would have experienced what you eventually would.

Some customers go with their instincts. Regardless, they are careful enough to back-up the important files and folders from their systems just in case the program creates a problem and their computers go awry.

There are programs which help you prevent the virus from entering into your system in the first place. It is best that you have this in your computer. But you must also note that there are situations wherein the computer will not be able to instantly recognize a virus.

For example, you clicked open a forwarded message in your inbox containing a virus. Now your computer had a hard time detecting this virus. You may have an anti-virus program installed into your system but these situations still do happen.

In the end, you must always rely on you. Read up on the program you want to install or download. Check on the credibility of the information stated on the webpage or the CD Rom. Contact the author if you can to verify the statements. And always back-up!

How To Guard Against PC Viruses

Whether we use computer for simple functions such as typing our homework and business reports, up to more important acts like online business meetings and transactions, one cannot deny that computers are a big part in our daily lives.

Using a computer, particularly the Internet, is one task that even a ten year old can do at this particular period in time.

With the growing increase of popularity and reliance on computers, as well as the demand for it, security risks have also gone up, which is a reality that cannot be ignored. With the billions of information bits being spread across the World Wide Web, hackers and computer intruders (criminals) see the value in focusing their attention to computers and the Internet. The information they would retrieve here is (more often than not) more useful than when doing it the old-fashioned way.

As such, these intruders have devised some methods into getting information out of computer users, with or without these people knowing that they’ve been hacked into. As is the case in real life, there are some computer programs that are disguised to be innocent, but actually act as spies, providing information to the intruders. These malicious programs which are security threats are called computer viruses.

Computer viruses should not be taken lightly. They work in many different ways; one of them may be to provide data to the one who planted the virus. Other viruses can simply be annoying – slowing down your computer, building unwanted files, etc. ; while some can be very disruptive, such as deleting your hard drive, compromising your operating system, etc.

As such, there are different types of viruses which normally differ in how they function and how they are spread. Examples of these include Trojan horses, worms, email viruses, and logic bombs. It would be important for you to know these kinds of viruses in order to better protect you from them, as well as to have the proper programs to get rid of them.

Trojan horses are simply computer program that cannot reproduce themselves, but can do damage anywhere from minimal to extremely dangerous. It usually disguises itself as a common file (maybe an .mp3 music file or a .jpeg picture file) but does the damage when the computer user opens it. This is why you should take extra care when opening a suspicious looking file : it could very well be a Trojan horse.

Worms are self reproducing programs that mainly use security holes in order to spread itself throughout the network. If your computer is infected with a worm and is able to replicate itself a number of times, this usually causes your computer to slow down noticeably since it uses your computer resources and memory to do so. They often use security flaws in operating systems (such as Windows) in order to self reproduce.

Email viruses are self explanatory : they spread via email. Once a user opens the infected email, what it usually does is send itself to other computer users via the email addresses found in the user’s address book. Because it uses email and a lot of people open emails without really checking or being careful, it spreads very quickly across the entire world and can cause chaos within just a few days.

Logic bombs are viruses that target specific computer applications, causing them to crash (for example, Windows). This can also be spread via email attachments or by innocently downloading it off the Internet. It can cause a great deal of harm (particularly if it infects Windows and the like), or just a small amount (small program).

Fortunately for computer users, there are anti-virus programs available anywhere, whether in the Internet or at the computer shop. These programs specifically target over thousands of viruses and wipe them clean from your system (if infected) or protect you from incoming attacks (if not yet infected).

Anti-virus programs are constantly updated (normally everyday) since there are always new virus definitions each day, and you can get infected by these new viruses. These software developers are always researching about the newest viruses to ensure you, the user, are protected from these viruses as much as possible. Your PC security and safety are always being considered.

Ensure Proper Computer Security

Making purchases nowadays doesn’t require you to go to the shop or store; you can buy items online. Researching for various pieces of information can now be accomplished via the Internet.

However, there is an unfortunate reality that goes along with the wonders of the Internet. It also thanks to the Internet that computer security is always an issue. With the continued growing of the reliance of people (including businessmen, offices, government officials, and more) on computers and the Internet, this is a more important issue than what most believe.

If you are a home computer user, you still need to make sure that your computer is safe from any form of malicious online attack, including hacking. You might have important data (including any identification) in your computer which intruders can have unwanted access to. That being said, it is important for you to find out just how safe your computer is from these potential attacks.

The very first step before actually tinkering with your computer is finding out the motive of intruders and why they target home computer users. They do this because (1) home computer users typically don’t have security measures installed to counter them, which makes them easy targets; and (2) they often have valuable information stored that is enough to entice these intruders, such as credit card information. Think about it: you might potentially be a target.

Following that, you have to know what types of attack to expect ; it is usually via email or clicking an ad-banner on a website. Opening an unknown, seemingly innocent email or clicking on an ad-banner will sometimes put you at unwanted risk and open the door for intruders. Once they’re in, they’re sometimes hard to get rid of, so your home computer security should start with you being careful about the things you do while connected to the Internet.

Being careful doesn’t mean just choosing which emails to open or not, and which ad-banners to click to or not. This also includes sending valuable information over the Internet, which is at risk for interception by a third party. It would be better to transmit really important information the old-fashioned way, unless you are very much confident in your security measures.

Next would be trying to place security measures in your computer itself. If your operating system is Microsoft Windows, they offer security updates and malicious software removal tools every month which would be extremely helpful to you ; the same goes for other operating systems such as Apple OS and LINUX. There are monthly updates because the intruders always try to find a way to get around these security measures.

After getting the free security updates of your operating system, you would need to get an anti-virus program, preferably one that has the greatest number of virus definitions (you might need to purchase this). Viruses, aside from causing chaos to your computer, can also be used to retrieve information from you and spread out to attack other computers. By obtaining a high-quality anti-virus program, viruses would not be as much of a problem.

Since intruders know the capabilities of anti-virus programs, they sometimes choose to use what is known as spyware, which are little bits of data that can either be annoying or potentially dangerous. Aside from being able to slow down your computer processes, it can also be used to retrieve data from you. To combat this, there are anti-spyware programs available, both freeware and via purchase.

The final security measure is a firewall. Normally, anti-virus programs offer firewalls, so acquiring one should not be much of a problem. A firewall acts like a security guard: it disallows outright entry to anything trying to access your computer (even if it is a program), without asking for your confirmation.

If you do not have these as your PC security and safety measures, you might be highly susceptible to an attack from intruders, if they haven’t done so already. These measures ensure you that your computer and the data inside of it are safe and secure.
