I’m trying to uninstall/remove a bunch of programs from my parents comp. Its too slow & cluttered, but I’m not sure if some of these programs are safe to remove. Can I unistall any of these or some of these? (Listed on "My Computer"- "Add/Remove Programs")

Adobe Flash Player 9 ActiveX
Adobe Flash Player ActiveX
Adobe Reader 7.1.0
Adobe Photoshop Album Starter Edition 3.0 (I’d like to keep this but do I need it AND the other Adobe’s? & They also have & probably want to keep Kodak Easy Share Software)
Macro Media Shockwave Player
My Web Search (Smiley Central) (This hasn’t been used since 2006)
Quick Time
Sound Max
True Search Wizard AT&T Yahoo! (Last used 12/1/2006)
Fonesync
Windows Installer 3.1 (KB89…..)
Windows Media Format 11 Runtime
Windows Media Player 11
Windows XP Service Pack 2
Microsoft Compression Client Pack 1.0 for windowsXP
Microsoft User-Mode Drivere Framework Feature Pack 1.0
Microsoft Word 2000 SR-1
Microsoft Works 2001 Set Up Launcher

Microsoft Works Suite Add in for Microsoft Word
MSXL 4.0 SP2 (KB93…..)
I’m unistalling Webshots they have & also on their list of programs (not on their add/remove list) are the following programs, not sure why they have it or what some are:
itunes (They don’t use it, why is it on there & can I uninstall it safely?)
Windows Movie Maker
Epson Printers (They have an HP Deskjet printer)
They do play a lot of on-line arcade type games & email, use internet searches & visit a lot of "safe" websites & use Works & Word occassionally, but that’s it.
Thank you for whatever advice you can give me! APPRECIATE IT!

Adobe Reader 7.1.0 (download the newest version 9 @ http://www.adobe.com)
My Web Search (Smiley Central) (This hasn’t been used since 2006)
this one had malware in it. Be aware.
True Search Wizard AT&T Yahoo! (Last used 12/1/2006)
All of the above can be safely removed.
Webshots should come off, it generates annoying popups
If they don’t use Itunes, take it off.
Remove Epson programs if they are not using an Epson printer
Windows Movie Maker is part of the XP install but you could remove it and later if it is required it can be re-installed from the add/remove programs icon, left hand side.
Make sure you install Spybot S&D 1.6 and run Teatimer. This will provide a layer of protection against any system files being modified by a piece of malware.
Make sure they are running an anti-virus program that automatically updates it’s definitions daily. Run a scheduled Full scan at least weekly.
With all of the latest DNS and zero-day virus/Trojan malware out on the Internet I would suggest you run the free firewall software called ComodoPro, available at http://www.comodo.com.
That should give you a good baseline for the activities you indicated.

I can’t vouch for all those programs, but I know you can delete all the Java 6 updates except 7. That step by itself should give you some 300 megabytes back.
And I suspect those J2SE Runtime Environment 5′s can be deleted. I think the Environment 6 Update 1 supercedes them.
Adobe Reader should be updated to version 8.1. It’s more secure. You may have to delete the older version by hand.
Windows XP Service Pack 2 absolutely should NOT be deleted unless you’re going to install Service Pack 3.
Macromedia Flash Player has been superceded by Adobe Flash Player (they bought the rights), so it can be deep-sixed.
Hope that helps.

all the J2SE Runtime Environment 5.0′s, all the java(tm) 6 updates, My Web Search, True Search Wizard, and Fonesync can all go. The Adobe reader is for reading PDF’s and the adobe flashes are for viewing videos online so you wanna keep these. i find itunes useless and you can normally remove it without removing quicktime though if it does happen to remove quicktime with it you can now get quicktime without the itunes inbedded. windows movie maker is for video editing so if you don’t do that then you don’t really need it. the epson is useless it can go. I’d also look at installing an anti-virus, i’d try avast.
