First symptom: one of my web pages wouldn’t load, though all the others still do. Then my security antivirus program showed as non functioning. Once that was fixed, then I couldn’t connect to the internet. Got that fixed, then my printer wouldn’t print. Now my Windows Media Player doesn’t work and says no sound device is detected. My CD/DVD player connection is no longer detected.when I try to record files, though it recognized a CD if there is already a file recorded on it. This started 5 days ago, and the flaky computer tech I had here yesterday worked for 3 hours and couldn’t figure it out and then didn’t bother to show up today. Tried to run a couple scans over the net and both of them shut down before the scan finished!
Does this kind of activity suggest a virus or suggest damage to the hardware? If a virus, any suggestions? And please don’t tell me to get a new computer. My computer is only 3 months old, so the money has already been spent!
Have already tried system restore. Didn’t work. I had what is supposed to be one of the BEST antivirus/firewall programs on my computer, provided by my ISP (Charter Communications).

Its not a hardware problem, its a virus.Well just check if all your folders or drives are having a same type of file named Winzip_Temp. If yes then first delete all this file from your system manually and then go to c:\windows there will be an autoexecuting file. Just delete it, its the one that reproduce that virus. Well you didnt mention which web site u r unable to open. It must be security sites. That is the speciality of this virus. It disables all security softwares webs and files. If it doesnt work it would say just format your c: drive and reinstall the OS.

go to http://www.grisoft.com and get AVG free it’s an antivirus prog. afterdownloading it restart the comp in safe mode and then run AVG then restart back to windows again

I think that’s not a virus may be you have corrupted windows try to install it again. It may be possible that a virus has damaged your windows files, by scanning the damaged files will not recaover you will need to install it again. Also you have not mentioned which Operating system you have if you have 95,98, Me or NT I will suggest you to format your partition and and install windows again but if you have XP put the cd on the cd-rom and restart your PC and follow the instructions.

sounds more like malware. try getting rid of some junk programs. and get some decent spyware/adware checkers.if you have any p2p2 prgrams, they should be history. then run check disk and other system tools.

Try to think of what you did just before things started breakind down. Did you install any new software that may be intferring? Some things like this may never be figured out and might be best to back up your personal info on a CD and reformat. If that doesnt help then your puter should still be under warranty.

Since your PC is only 3 months old, you probably haven’t got too many softwares installed on it. The best way to fix this is to reformat your hardrive and reinstall it with a fresh/clean Windows. After the installation the first thing you need to do is run the window updates and install a firewall, an anti-virus and an anti-spyware program to prevent this from happen again. I suggest, you first try to carryout system restore to a day previous to the day when there was no virus or any problems. It may be a few weeks or months back. You have to decide the date. Then,You insatll a standard antivirus soft ware such as Norton, AVG , Avast ( free antivirus software and Ad-aware, Ewido ( free spyware removers). You can download free softwares at

After running the virus scan delete all temprory internet files including off line content and also unwanted files and temp. files. Finally, carryout a defragmentation . Your system will be back to the normal…!
