Over recent years there have been many arguments proposed by those who are not in favour of computer games or video games, or have concerns about either the amount of time spent playing such games, or the nature of the images and scenes watched by those playing them. One of the common arguments put forward is that computer and video games , through the nature of violence and graphic horror, are desensitizing children to violence and horror in the real world. There argument is that by watching vivid and repeated images on the screen of violence, aggression, killing and other physical attacking, the children or young people playing the games will start to accept this level of violence, or way of interacting with those around you, and in the real world, be more likely to be aggressive, or produce an aggressive or violent response to a given stimuli.

This argument, however popular it may be, is deeply flawed, and in truth holds no water at all. There have been many studies that have demonstrated that there has never been, and is not today, any measurable correlation between the amount of video gaming a person plays and any violent characteristics in the real world.

One explanation for why this may be the case can be found not in humans, but in a wide variety of other animals – in particular apes and other primates. These primates will frequently take part in what we call play fighting. To an outsider it can look and sound quite frightening, with expectations of blood, injury or even death. However, what the observer will also notice is that once the fight is over, both parties happily walk away completely uninjured and none the worse for wear. More than likely they’ll be related or good friends within the family or group. This is quite different to genuine fighting, for perhaps defence against an intruding group, or a fight for leadership, when injuries might be suffered. These primates know the difference between play fighting and real fighting, and no matter how active it may appear, they both know and follow the rules of play fighting within that environment.

Children follow the same behavioural paths as primates, in as much as they know and understand the difference between fighting and aggression on screen, within a play environment, and such behaviour in the real world. In particular, primates and humans (some would argue that they’re the same thing!) are very good at being able to catalogue and separate behaviours in this way, and that no matter how aggressive a child may be in game, they understand that it is just a game, and mentally apply a different set of rules.

This ability is almost certainly hereditary, since if our ancestors, primates, didn’t have the ability to understand the difference between play fighting and real fighting, the chances that we would have evolved this far is somewhat unlikely.

A pop-up message came out when I started my computer yesterday morning, indicating that I have a new update. Without any delay and any checking of which type of updating, I clicked the (ok) button and my computer started to update automatically in a few seconds. Need to restart the computer if the updating could be working! another message came out. OK, no problem, I just clicked the (ok) button again and was waiting for another few seconds. What happened? I stared at my computer screen. My goodness, my virus protection software could not be in function, two of my favorite icons (volume and connection) disappeared from taskbar, and even worse, the opened window (either for files or internet) did not come back to taskbar area as a taskbar button when I clicked (minimize-), but disappeared also. When I opened a new file or internet page, the old one (for example, a video) was still working but I could not find them where they are on screen including taskbar area.

In such a case, I could not carry out my work anymore. Then I tried all possible ways to solve the problems, including resetting taskbar, customizing my icons and changing internet options setting, but all the means were not functional. Finally I had to pick up my phone and called my fiend. He advised me why not to try system restore. Oh, yes, I had not tried it yet since I seldom use it and know some new installations would be lost. Without other choice at that moment, I had to take my fiend advice and do it. It was really a miracle! My computer came back to the original condition except malfunction of anti-virus software and losing of some new installations. Just clicking Rollback to the previous databases for anti-virus software and reinstalling the lost softwares, I got my computer to work properly again.

It is really waste of my few hours to solve the above incident problems! Taking this lesson, I now practise to create a restore point before any updating and after new software installation. If something happens, I just use the system restore to restore my computer to an earlier restore point. It is that simple! With the restore system, I will be more confidant about my work in future!

The steps for creating a restore point are as follows:

Start – All Programs – Accessories – System Tools – System Restore – Tick the Create a restore point – Next (give a file name) – Create (Screen will shown: New restore point: Saturday 14 2008 time file name)

The restore process is given below:

Start – All Programs – Accessories – System Tools – System Restore – Tick the Restore my computer to an earlier time – Next (choose a date and time. The calendar inside displays in bold all of the dates that have restore points available.) – next (The compute will complete the restore process automatically.)

I would love to know if you have ever been in this situation or simply tell me your thoughts about this or how to solve the problem.

Is it possible that computer and video games have something positive and constructive to offer, and that rather than being a social menace which parents should be afraid of, they are in fact contributing a good deal to the development of the next generation?

Certainly there is no doubt whatever that the children of today will be living in a technological society, with computers and technical equipment part of everyday lifestyle. Although we’re pretty much at that stage now, many of us have either witnessed the introduction and steady development and integration of computer technology into our lives, or have experienced a world before computers came along, and have seen the world and our lives slowly taken over by electronic gadgets that seem to be far cleverer than we are. Children of today will grow up never knowing a world without mobile phones, satellite technology, worldwide file and information sharing and exchange, instant video communications with anyone, anywhere anytime, and although this idea might seem surreal to us, almost as though something from a science fiction novel, for our children it will be their reality.

In which case it is important for us to accept this change, and try to see a way in which our children can be adjusted to, and deal effectively with not only the technology around them, but also each other. Social skills, people skills and personal characteristics are always going to be important, and no one can live on an island with oinly a computer to keep them company. At the end of the day, it is not the computers which run society, but a combination of the people who design and program them, and the people who use them in their lives. Computers are, always have been, and will continue to be machines, tools, used by real people doing real jobs.

So what do computer and video games have to do with this brave new world? If you examine carefully the range of games available, you may simple assume that the games industry is owned by the US military or some other armed force, since so many games seem to involve military tactics, and the conquering or annihilation of the opposing force. Whilst this is an unfair generalisation, there certainly are many games which take the idea of battles and wars as their basis. One could argue that old games such as Battleships, even Chess, are about battles and armed forces – just a little simpler and easier to grasp.

But the point is that many of the games available necessarily require players to understand, learn and develop skills which have a great deal of value in the real world. Skill such as teamwork, coordination, planning, devising and implementing strategies, logistics, problem solving and even budgeting all come in to play – life skills which, whilst they can be taught in other ways, are not the main focus of any educational curriculum. Yet no one would deny the value of those skills. Perhaps gaming can become part of the curriculum at school in the future, allowing children to develop life skills through video games?

Without the CPU a computer can never run and therefore everyone should know the basics about how to install it in the computer. Everyone who is related to computer operating process must know the essential parts and its functions in a computer because the user may feel the need of the hardware knowledge anytime while operating it. The processes of installing CPU are a bit technical for which the user should have some prior knowledge.

The process can be described in a few steps which are fairly easy for the user. The person installing this should be very careful and cautious because a little carelessness on his side may lead to the damage of the motherboard and the minor pins.

As the CPUs are of two types, the processes of installing these are also different. The two types are the Athlon XP and the Pentium 4 among which the first one is a bit tricky and demands careful attention. The most important thing to be noticed while installing it is the pins. The pins should not be broken while inserting the wires in the holes.

The installer has to first match the pins with each other. The pins are designed in a manner where the other point can be inserted in a hap hazard manner. In fact, the person has to match the pins with the holes and the missing pins with the missing holes. In this attempt, most often it has been noticed that the person trying to do so breaks the pins. Once the pins get fixed you can be assured that the first step of installation is completed.

For keeping the CPU cool, the use of the thermal paste is most often suggested. This paste keeps it cooler and this helps in its smooth functioning. The thermal pastes are of various kinds among which the Arctic Silver is the best. It comes in the form of an injector style tube. While applying the paste the person has to be a bit careful because the attempt should be to make only a thin layer. For that the paste should be squeezed in a small drop on the CPU and then it should be split by a thin knife. This should be done smoothly and softly without giving any pressure on the paste.

The installation is not so tough as it looks to be. The person doing this can very easily do so by following the steps or the guidelines mentioned in the handbook. However, if the person installing it is not feeling comfortable in following the technical and mechanical steps, then it is better to approach a hardware engineer or a professional in this field. The computer parts are very fragile in nature and that is why the job demands some extra care too. Any mistake in this respect may result in heavy loss too.
