Four Must Consider Tips On High-End Notebooks

We have come a long way since notebooks came to the market for the first time. Back then a notebook was not only heavier in weight but also lacked features that are very common in the modern notebooks. For instance, few would have ever imagined to get connected to the Internet sitting at the balcony in wireless environs with the help of a built-in wireless card in their notebook.

Similarly, the notebooks in their earlier incarnations didn`t carry enough space to store a collection of your favorite movies. Thanks to the constant innovation in the notebook technology, we have been getting more facilities than we can ask for. As the demand of the business travelers for efficient notebooks are on the rise, notebooks manufacturers are investing time and resources to find answers for their targeted consumers.

Needless to say, modern notebooks have brought with them a wide array of user-friendly features. However, not every notebook has all the features you would expect for convenience. The ones that have rich and convenient features such as more storage facility, faster processing speed and lighter weight come with a price tag that beyond the reach of many. Moreover, they have been manufactured keeping in mind of the specific needs of the notebooks users. Hence, those who don`t need these rich features shouldn`t worry about their higher price range.

Given the tricky terrain of choosing a notebook, a few tips on how to take the right plunge will surely do a world of good to the notebook buyers. Here they go:

CPU: Let`s face it- the most important requirement for a convenient computing experience is the processing speed. Irrespective of their requirements, most buyers prefer to buy notebooks with Dual Core chips. However, they will cost your higher than most of the low-budget notebooks. If you want a combination of economy and mobility, you will find several low-budget notebooks with the Intel`s Celeron processors. Although they aren`t they super performer in terms of process speed, they, however, will be suitable for most of your basic computing needs.

RAM: Technically, if your notebook has a good RAM as per your specific requirements, you will always enjoy working on your laptop. When it comes to the RAM of a notebook, it largely depends on your particular computing needs. For instance, if you wish to run some basic applications, a RAM of 1 GB should be fine. Likewise, a 1.5 GB RAM will be essential for your notebook if you are thinking of photo editing and basic 3D gaming apart from running the basic applications. Consider a 2GB or higher RAM as a part of your notebook`s configuration if you are serious about high-end graphic work, video editing and high-performance 3D gaming.

Portability: Notebook manufactures have always roped in the portability factor to promote their new editions of notebooks. Most of the notebook ads boast of the slim factor of the featured notebook. While a slim and light notebook is definitely better for frequent fliers, these notebooks are usually lack some additional features such as internal optical drives, large and fast hard drives, and extra ports. Besides, while most notebook promos brag about their light-weight, practically, your notebook carry bag will include the weight of your power adapter among other accessories. So, the total weight of your laptop carry bag will go well beyond what you have seen on those promos.

Price and Warranty: Most low-priced notebooks are not ideal if you are working on them for long hours. Some of their components may not withstand the demanding work schedules and are likely to through problems within a shorter span of time. Also, you are less likely to get an extended warranty on these shoe-string budget notebooks. Preferably, you should go for a notebook that is that offers you at least a 3-year warranty. Although it will cost you a little higher than your projected budget, it always pays off in the long run. Remember, you don`t buy notebooks every year.

How To Counteract Bad News

The saying that all publicity is good publicity is not strictly true. If a celebrity constantly has bad press, this will eventually have a negative effect on their reputation and the way they are perceived by the public. Everybody is allowed to make mistakes and most people understand that any mistake a celebrity makes will be magnified tenfold through the press. This does put a certain responsibility on them to behave in a certain way and many of them do but with the spotlight of the world’s paparazzi constantly on them, impeccable behaviour is bound to slip occasionally. And why shouldn’t they? They are only human after all.

However, when one of us minions slips up and has a drunken brawl in the street no-one takes a great deal of notice and we can still turn up to work the next day and earn the same amount of money – albeit a little sheepishly. It’s a little different for those who people expect to see setting an example and continuous bad press can have disastrous effects on a career.

So, what can they do to counteract it? Given that a vast majority of the population will read the news online, particularly the people that matter, the celebrity’s agents can contact a search engine optimization company and enlist their help for reputation protection. Online reports can be managed in such a way as to stop the bad news showing up first when a Google search is carried out on that particular person.

The mainstream users of search engines will rarely read past the first page and this is why search engine optimisation is such big business – everyone wants to be on page one for their key terms in order to generate the maximum amount of business from their website. So, in order to minimise the ill effects of bad publicity, high profile people will use search engine optimisation for reputation protection.

A thorough understanding of search engines and the way they work is crucial to managing an online reputation effectively. Software is available to try and cover it but each individual will need bespoke handling and software simply doesn’t cover it. Software is useful for tracking the bad publicity but cannot do anything about where it appears in a search engine.

The saying that bad news travels fast is true. So, thanks to all the social networking sites and blogs that are now online, any bad news is quickly replicated and finds its way to the top of the search engine. Search engines love blogs because they are mostly text based and the information is relatively fresh most of the time so will spider them regularly.

A search engine optimisation company worth its money will show tact and discretion in counteracting the bad news with good news. The news will be optimised into a fashion that understands how search engines work and works within these boundaries. It’s never going to be possible to take the bad news out but if you counteract it with enough good news that is search engine friendly then you can at least push the bad news back a page or two. As we have already established, most people only look at the first page of a search engine which means the chances of them seeing the bad news will be limited.

Backscatter (NDR) Spam – Protect Yourself

With every advancement in anti spam software, the spammers become more desperate and more inventive. They have even discovered how to take advantage of standard operations of most e-mail servers.

It’s called NDR (Non Delivery Receipt) Spam or backscatter. Have you ever received a message in your inbox saying that something you sent was undeliverable or bounced? Spammers are now using this courtesy response to get their information in your inbox. They send e-mails to addresses that do not exist, and say that it is from you. Or they use your e-mail address as the sender for their entire, enormous mailing list. Then when any messages bounce back they are sent to your e-mail address. This is possible simply because email servers cannot authenticate that the person sending the message is in fact the owner of the address being used.

How would a spammer get these e-mail addresses? It is not unusual for a company or person to post a contact e-mail address on a company or personal website. Spammers can collect these, and use them as their own address for their enormous mailing lists, thereby eliminating the need them to deal with the inevitable ‘Return To Sender’ NDR e-mails.

This type of spam can be quite dangerous. Because technically the message is coming from the reader’s own mail server, the chances of them opening it, and anything that might be attached, is much higher then with your typical spam. And for the exact same reasons it is considered much more insidious as well because it’s much harder for a spam blocker to filter out. The most likely outcome of NDR spam is that a single domain will be spoofed as the sender of a spam message, and then be inundated by NDR messages from the long list that the message was sent to, overwhelming a company’s exchange server. At its simplest it can overwhelm an exchange server, and force a user to waste time sorting through their inbox.

Little can be done by an individual to eliminate this type of spam, but an internal IT manager can turn off the option to have NDR messages produced at the mail sever. Spam filters can also be put in place to delete any messages that contain frequently used spam content, or subject-line only messages with no content. This can make it a little more difficult for users to send and receive their e-mail, but if they are made aware of the restrictions necessary to maintain optimum operations, problems can often be avoided.

In general this type of spam causes a significant nuisance to users and system administrators, but as with other types of spam, the technology is even now being developed and implemented to put another road block in the way of backscatter.

Staying Safe from Phishing

Your brave anti-spam software works hard to defend your inbox from all those messages about enlarging… um…. various things. Even more important, your spam buster also helps protect you from less-embarrassing –but more dangerous– phishing scam emails. But not entirely safe. Just in case a big bad phishing scam does get through to your inbox, it’s important to know how to spot it.

1. Do they handle your money? Then they won’t ask for your info.

The companies that deal with your money can be counted on for a lot of things. Making mistakes on your monthly statement. Talking robotically on the telephone (even if they’re human). Sending you advertisements you don’t want. But one thing they can’t be counted on to do –because they never do it– is ask for your account information in an email. No company that deals in your finances will ask for your info via email. Ever. Not the bank, not the IRS, and not Paypal.

2. Check that the sender’s email address matches the company’s URL.

Whenever you receive an email from a secure financial organization, such as your bank or the ever-friendly IRS, be sure to check the email over carefully. Is the name of the organization misspelled in the email address, or not included at all? Is the appearance and language of the email official? (Just a hint: a title of ‘It’s time 4 U to renew UR account!’ is a dead giveaway.)

3. Check who’s getting the email. If there’s more than one address, get suspicious quick.

If a message you’ve received has aroused your suspicion, a quick way to check if it’s legit is to take a look at who it’s gone out to. If there’s more than one email address there, they’re probably not who they say they are– after all, major companies have a privacy policy to follow. Many lazy phishers simply blitz the Net, sending messages to hot_bad_muscles1, hot_bad_muscles2, all the way up to you at hot_bad_muscles2000.

4. Do the email’s claims catch your attention? Check it online.

One way phishing spam works is by trying to scare you into acting quickly. They’re going to delete your account. Or they’re going to kill you. Or they’re going to run over your dog. If the content of an email catches your attention and you feel you must take action, look into it first. The easiest way to do this is to Google a sentence or two from the email. If you find other people online talking about it, it’s garbage.

The big bad phisher will try to get under your skin– but just delete those suckers right out of your inbox.

5. Stop phishing in its tracks by reporting phishing scams to the company they’re pretending to be.

No major (or, heck, minor) company wants to be impersonated by someone looking to steal their clients’ info and even their identities. While most of them don’t actually care what happens to you (when is the last time your bank manager gave you a hug?), they do care how identity theft makes their company look. So be sure to advise an organization that their customers are being targeted by a phishing spam. They can send out warnings, button down security, and generally work to keep their clients’ info safe.

There are a lot of nasty characters creeping around on the Net. And some careless people do fall into their traps. Don’t be one of them. Instead, up the anti-spam security on your email server, keep your eyes peeled for bogus emails, and delete, delete, delete.

ActiveX Errors And How To Fix Them

Active X errors can be a problem. We have all had moments when we hate our computer, especially when there are errors that we do not understand. ActiveX errors can be one of these errors.

Understanding Active X, how it works and what it does, will help you understand the errors better so that you can fix them. You do not have to be a computer programmer to fix these errors though, many users without extensive experience fix ActiveX errors by following some simple steps.

Because Active X programs allow interactive programs over the Internet, ActiveX programs should always need to confirm before running except in certain specific cases. Otherwise electronic infections or malicious software could be the results, along with many ActiveX errors on your screen. Go to the Internet options icon in the Control Panel, then click the Security tab. Next hit the button which says Custom Level. Locate the section for Active X, and mark prompt under all the settings except for the two exceptions. These exceptions are settings which are marked either `Script ActiveX controls marked safe for scripting` or `Run ActiveX controls and plug-ins`. Both of the exceptions to the prompt should be configured to enable, instead.

Another cause of Active X errors can be the wrong configuration of the needed system file, and this file may need to be reset to allow the correct configuration to occur. This may sound complex but it does not have to be. Go to the Start menu, then click Run. Enter regsvr32 msxml3.dll and then click on the okay button. After the prompt appears choose okay again. Shut down all the Internet browser windows, then open them back up. Many times this will cause the system file to be configured correctly.

Many times the ActiveX errors you get will be due to software that has been removed. If this is the case then simply re-installing the program files which are missing will fix the ActiveX errors. A search can be done online to find the components you need. Simply enter the error information exactly as your computer shows it, and many different sites offer a large number of resources available to fix any errors, including ActiveX errors. The Microsoft website also offers many resources regarding errors, including the ability to search by error name so that the entire knowledge base is searched.

The Best ActiveX Error Fix

One of the most effective and easiest ways to fix Active X errors is to use a registry cleaner. A big portion of these errors are caused by registry keys and entries which are not valid, and these may be caused by spyware or other malicious software programs. Manually going through the Windows registry and editing it can be very time consuming, not to mention dangerous to your system.

If you are not an experienced computer programmer, you may delete the wrong thing and cause your entire system to crash or sustain serious damage. A registry cleaner is software that takes care of editing your Windows registry without any security issues, making this job much faster and easier, so that almost any computer user can eliminate these ActiveX errors.
