System Recovery is something that HP/Compaq uses. When you Create the CD about 8 you are backing up your System recovery on your hard drive. Usually what is call drive D. It contain all the file and folder to reinstall everything for factory setting. If or when your computer Hard Drive go out you will need the Disks to reinstall Windows and other program that come with your system. If you don’t create the CD you will have to order them from HP and that can take a little awhile to get them. I have a set for my computer put up. I had to use them twice. Once when my computer got a bad virus then again when my hard-drive went out…
Now backup is something else. If you want you can backup you file and folders so if you have to recover your system you can get your files and setting all back. This is good to save set-up time after you lose data and you save your files and folder that normally would of been lost.

You will be asked to restore to an earlier point which usually goes back three months.
Just go back to the time before you started having any problems with your computer. If you have alot of problems right now then restoring it will resolve your problems.
Just remember that it is not good to restore on a regular basis.

Windows backup Wizard just rolls your system back to certain point. And if you want to create a bootable CD containing your WinXP you need to use 3d party software like True Image by Acronis which can easily backup not only your OS but also applications’ settings, media library and Outlook files.
