I have a table of contents, and I want to space the page numbers to the right side of the page with periods automatically, ex:
SECTION FOUR: THE CABINET ……………………..….23
General …………………………………………………………24
Director of Class One Organizations ………………….…25
Is there a way to do this in word 2007 that’s easier than spacing all of the lines manually with periods?

The best way is to create automatically your table of contents and word will put the periods

This is done using a dotted tab leader, not by inserting periods. If you insert periods, it might look fine on screen but will be all wavy when you print the document out because the space given for the periods will be slightly different on the printer than it is on screen. Instead, you actually insert a tab mark on the ruler at the position you want the page numbers to be, and then set the tab mark style. It’s too complex to explain here how to do this – search the Word help entries for tab stops and tab leaders.

That’s called leader. You can get it from the normal Table of Contents dialog box this way:
1. Right-click in the Table of Contents and select Edit Field.
2. In the Field Names list box, find and select TOC.
3. Click the Table of Contents button.
4. In the Tab Leader list box, select the leader you want. (Should currently be on (none).)
5. Click OK.
Hope that helps.
