I setup a wireless network before, but never have I have such a hard time with setting up with Verizon DSL. I have no problem accessing the internet when I hooked up the laptop directly to the DSL modem. When I tired hooking up the Linksys router (WRT54G) I can connect to the router, but I can not access the internet. I tried mac cloning the router and have the DHCP set to automatic and it still does not work. Please give me a step by step intruction to add a wireless router to Verizon DSL. FYI-Verizon DSL needs to have a username and password authentication. So I need to have the router set to PPPOE? I heard you can also try bridging the DSL modem (i dont want to use this method). Based on my experiences with routers, i would disconnect my wireless card or any computer in my home that is searching for a wireless connection. Then connect my modem first and let it sync, then when it is finished i would connect my router next, then wait to see if all recommended lights on your modem are lit. Keep trying that method! (worked for me) The router will automatically configure everything so u can get a connection. You can go to the configure page they gave you with your router to see if you are connected or not.Example (http://192.165.4.9 ) I had a ativa router that would not connect to the internet for some reason until a few tries using my method i was online. I have also noticed that u can’t put the ativa router in stand-by mode using your modem or else you will loose your connection. Don’t have that problem anymore since i replaced it with a belkin router, setup was easy and i can put my cable modem on stand by with out the router interfering with my internet connection. N.B. sometimes the ativa router would drop my connection! You might be having similiar problems.

Hey, man. Just call Linksys support and they will walk you through it. It would take too long here.

You would be better using a combine modem/router to replace your existing modem. As it is you must unplug the power cable from the modem. Switching it off does not work. Then connect the router to the modem but do not turn it on. Power the modem. Wait for it to sync, then power on the router. Before you do this reset the router to defaults. Do NOT touch MAC cloning. It causes serious problems. The modem carries the login information.
