You can try to sign up for Apple’s newsletter emails that tell you new things every week. The App Store is updated every week so you can check it yourself. And the App Store will inform you anytime when there is an update for any of your applications.

The best way I know how is to subscribe to Macworld’s Reviews via RSS. If you have an RSS reader (for mac users, just use Apple Mail), it will send you reviews for games that are just out or just about to come out.
Best plan I have for staying on top of iPhone/iPod touch software releases.
