I have a mac computer and on the bottom of the screen (desktop) where you see the safari, calendar, photos, address book icons. There is a blue postal stamp icon, that I click to check my email. How can I removed this icon, but still be able to check my email? The reason I’m doing this is because I don’t want people (who use my Mac) to click on my mail icon and read my mail. To remove it, do I have to do something in system preferences?

you should be able to just click on it then drag it out of the dock and it should turn into a smoke or cloud and disappear. then you can get it open again from applications

highlight it, click cmd + delete or drag it to the trash can.
good luck
you could require a password to log on, or set up restricted profiles.

Just remove it from your dock.
Control and Space bar, and it will give you a list of options like "Open At Login" "Show In Finder" etc. etc. etc. And one of those options should be "Remove from Dock" and then that should be it. Then when you need it go the Magnify glass at the right corner of your Mac, and type in Mail and it should lead you to your Emails when you need it.

Don’t do what that first guy said. If you do, you’ll be DELETING your mail application. I made a quick 2 minute video on how to keep your files and applications private. It’s simple to follow.

Once you’ve done that, drag your mail app out of the dock. It will disappear into smoke. Go into your applications and find your mail app, then drag it into your disk image that I just showed you.
