How do I remove the messenger section of the new Hotmail?
Jul 29, 2010
The new hotmail has a web messenger that automatically signs in and it’s really annoying for me because it signs me out of my windows live messenger. I can’t find an option to disable the web messenger though. Does anyone know?

I’m using firefox and this is happening to me as well. And… right now I’m trying to clear the cache and history… logging into hotmail… nope, looks like it still automatically logs into web messenger even though I set the option for it to be offline.
And I’m going to try again with my regular messenger off… okay, I set it again to stay offline and signed right out of hotmail…. holy hell is this ever slow… and it worked. But one more test, going to sign in with my regular messenger turned on… it’s been signing on and off a whole lot in the last hour or so, people have to be getting mad at all the racket by now. lol
Anyway… alright, that seemed to work. Here’s a quick list of the madness of "…" above that I did and it worked. For me anyway.
1) I cleared my cache and history.
2) I opened my hotmail inbox like I always did and it logged in automatically.
3) Below my name in the top right is ‘Options’, I moused over that and clicked the "sign out of messenger" option.
4) I signed right out of hotmail altogether, between my name and the "options" in the top right corner.
5) Instead of using my regular bookmark to log into hotmail, I went straight to hotmail.com and signed in there and… that was it. No more automatic signing in of web-messenger.
This worked for me, if it doesn’t for you, try leaving your regular messenger off before logging into hotmail and setting the option. I have a feeling that it’s seeing that it was online somewhere else and is resetting the cookie to sign in web-messenger automatically everytime you close your browser window.
Anyway, hope this works for you.

Just click on your name on the superior right corner of your screen, and log off live messenger. That’s it, messenger wont bother you unless you log in manually.
