I need to install a program from a CD onto a laptop with no drive. I have the laptop on a wireless network with 2 other desktops. I can’t afford to buy an external drive right now, or much of anything, for that matter. Any ideas? Thanks!

YES YOU CAN, ANYTHING is possible when you have short options.
1st- The laptop and 1 of your desktop with a working CD-Rom must be on the network and having no issues talking to each other.
2nd they both need to be running XP Proffesional or Windows 2000 Professional. or any version of Vista except the Home edition.
3. Both PC must have user name & password set
4. They must be in the same workgroup, if you never made any changes to the network this is automatic.
5.On your desktop you are going to share your cd-rom
- right click on your cd rom
-properties
-sharing tab
-and (CIRCLE) share this folder
-the share name you will give is d$ (assuming your cd-rom is drive d:)
-pop in the cd on the desktop you just share the cd-rom
go to your laptop on the run Box (start >> Run) or (windows logo + r)
type in ….
\\computername\d$
(to find out computername) go to your desktop, right click on
-My Computer icon
-properties
-Computer Name tab
-you will see Full computer name.
so back on your laptop type in…
\\computername\d$ <<<assuming d: is your cd rom you share.
when it prompts for user name & password. you will type in the info of your desktop.
p.s you may require to log on and off both PC when you had share the drive.

Try to run the CD through your network from one of your desktops. You may have to tell the desktop pc to share the drive. This will no doubt be slower than if you had a CD drive in the laptop, but should still work. I have done it numerous times.

Make a image file of the cd on one of your desktops with a program like Norton ghost or the like, transfer the image file to your laptop via the network, then use a virtual cd program like Daemon tools to run the image file.

Copy the entire contents to a shared folder in one of the computers with a CD drive, and on the computer without a CD drive open the folder and double click on the autorun exe file.
