I’ve been using my new logitech x540 for 2/3 days now and whenever I turn switch on or off from the power outlet it gives a loud POP from the speakers everytime (the power control for the speakers are off!). I have an old yamaha 2.1 speaker/sub and they never did this. So is this normal/harmful to sound quality?
Also, on the first day of using it would pop randomly whilst on – like maybe 2/3 times in 1 hour – i wasnt listening to anything. It hasn’t happened since that day so I’m not really worried about it.

very common, especially with "budget" speakers. the way a speaker works, there is an electromagnet around a permanent magnet on the speaker cone that makes the speaker move back and forth when it is getting a signal. when you turn it on, the initial surge of electricity going into the speaker’s coil makes the permanent magnet move, thus, "pop".

Yes, it’s ordinary.

It is common with my speakers to give a small pop when I turn them off and on but if you’re worried then I recommend exchanging them and if your new speakers do the same thing then you know it must be the product as a whole that does this and it is not a problem with an individual package. If the problem does not persist with your new speakers then you know that the other ones were faulty.
