I am thinking about buying a netbook for my sister for her birthday. She has a desktop computer but she has always wanted a laptop. Are netbooks erally that different from regular laptops? Would you recommend getting one or no?
thanks so much! Well, she is 20 years old and she would mainly use it to go on websites, upload pictures, and type things up.
another thing..so about the i touch..do you need a monthly service plan for it? Or just wireless capability?

I have one myself and it’s mainly used due to it’s portability and multi connectivity. It is wi-fi, 3g mobile broadband, bluetooth and wirelessly enabled. For demanding applications such as games or for having three or four windows open or several different programs running at the same time it’s useless. What it’s good for is web browsing, social networking, emails etc.
It’s not great for typing. Most netbooks don’t have a full sized keyboard but it will run Open Office better than MS Office.

It depends entirely on what she will be using it for really. Netbooks are really great for people like students or business people, or anyone who really just needs a computer for taking notes, typing up papers, or browsing web pages. However anyone who needs a big screen, big keyboard, or lots of power really shouldn’t get a netbook. Not to mention, not many (if any) netbooks have cd/dvd drives, so that really limits most people on what you can do with them. If you can tell me anything about what your sister would use it for then I could give you a better straight forward answer and even tell you which netbook would be best for them.
And really, in most cases i’ve found that the iPod touch makes a great "netbook alternative". It has web access, it can do most things a computer does, it plays music and movies, and you can download thousands of apps to it (most of them for free) if you need it to do anything else that is doesn’t already do. So maybe go to apple.com and check out the iPod touch page, you might be surprised. And really ask yourself what you need a netbook for that the iPod touch can’t really do.
And like I said just edit and add a note asking for more help if you want it. Good luck and Peace.
