Somebody please explain this in terms I can understand.
I want to do something in computers when I grow up. I like programming but would like to know more.
What is the different between a computer scientist and computer programmer? Don’t they overlap in certain ways?

Computer programming is just that: writing programs that make computers work. Computer science, on the other hand, is the study of HOW computers work. It’s everything from turning sand into silicon (and why that matters) into how electric flow turns computer "gateways" into information.
It takes some knowledge of computer science to be a computer programmer, but one doesn’t have to be a computer programmer in order to be a computer scientist.

Yea,
Programming is just writing software or assignments for the computer to perform.
Computer Science is more related to the inside of Computers, like Harddrives, Ram, CPU, etc.
Though it is really helpful for computer scientists to know programming as well.
So they do somewhat overlap.
But one thing, it that being a computer scientist itself is a bit more stable occupation than being a sole programmer, as being only a programmer can get outsourced.

They are very similar, but computer science gets into the mathematics behind computer programming. Computer programming is concerned with producing a result application that does something, whereas computer science is concerned with the best way to program.
