I have a DELL Latitude d630. I am trying to find a cheap operating system, because my discs are damaged. So would any O.S work on my computer?

I thoroughly recommend Linux Mint 7 Main Edition which is built upon Ubuntu 9.04 Its easy to install and easy to use plus it comes with much of the software you are likely to need preinstalled

You download the ISO. image of Linux Mint 7 then you need to create a Bootable LiveCD for installation
Linux Mint 7 can also be run direct from the LiveCD from Booting up without touching your Hard Drive

Linux Mint 7 ext4 with switchable Compiz 0.8.3* and Beryl 0.2.1 (obsolete)

no , you have to meet the system specs to upgrade your os, ram and cpu are the main issues, you could buy a resurfacing kit to remove the scratches if thats all wrong with it go to best buy or staples, office max
